Why would Dr. Seuss only have one female character that speaks throughout all the books he has published? Dr. Seuss had two sisters growing up, he was also a stepfather to two girls, why would he not include more female characters for little girls to read? Above are just some of Seuss' male characters, besides Cindy Lou Who (pictured at the very top) Seuss has maybe a few female character that are not actively speaking in the story such as Sally from Cat in the Hat. Sally's brother is the on who narrates what is happening during the story. It is interesting when you look at all of the books in his children's collection and realize that there is only one main character that is a female. Being a girl myself, reading multiple Seuss books growing up, I did not even realize or care at the time that there was such a lack of representation. But now, looking at this information today, it is sad and it brings a lot of questions to mind that will never have a sure answer.
